Steering Team

The steering team is the leadership team at Living Hope.  Our purpose is to glorify God through spiritual leadership, guidance, and encouragement of the church body.

The steering team is the only elected position at Living Hope.  The team consists of six elected members plus the pastor.  In August of each year, members of Living Hope elect two new members to the steering team.

Steering team duties include:

  • Establish short- and long-term direction for Living Hope.
  • Pastoral care
  • Staff development
  • Ministry accountability
  • Celebrate accomplishments

Steering Team Update - April 24, 2008

Opportunity for Community

We are looking to put our faith into action by touching people's lives in service to them and our community. By doing this we will be carrying on the example He set as He healed the sick and washed the disciple's feet.

Here are some notes on the project thus far:

  • Project is planned for June 19-21st. It would be probably just in the evening on Thursday and Friday, and then all day on Saturday.
  • Since we don’t have a lot of time, the jobs we are looking for are fairly small painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Food will be provided on Thursday and Friday nights, as well as a potluck for lunch on Saturday.
  • Pastor Verlan is responsible for finding the jobs. He already has some in mind, and is working with some of the village committees and leaders to find more. Feel free to offer suggestions!
  • Projects will be reviewed and approved by the end of May.

As we move through the next few months, please be in prayer for how you can be involved in this opportunity to celebrate Christ as we serve our community. Watch the bulletin and the website for more information coming soon.

Youth Director Search

The search team is doing an outstanding job. They are really taking ownership of this task, and we need to continue to keep them in our prayers. They are putting in a lot of time on this task, even meeting as often as once a week. We also need to continue to pray for the person whom God has chosen to come to Living Hope. The search team already has a number of applications. They will be outlining the hiring process and hopefully be starting the interview process soon. We are still on track to have someone in this position by this fall!

Small Groups

As we continue to grow, so do our small groups. Some have birthed into new groups, some have shifted members around, and one has kind of disbanded as members moved into the Alpha ministry. We need to continue to have open chairs at our small groups and continue to invite people to our small groups. Be prepared for continued changes as new groups are formed and we need more people to step up to be leaders of the new groups.

Intentional Fellowship

Brainstorming has begun on a new ministry to begin in the fall where we could encourage more intentional fellowship. This would be a place to "walk across the room" as we have fun with interviews and teaching opportunities in a casual, relaxed environment. It would be more interactive and social than our current adult Sunday school.

This idea comes from a fairly new ministry at Harvest EFC in Beaver Dam. The format is a large room with small tables, where everyone grabs some refreshments and a new friend to sit with. Each week, different things like games, major announcements, message follow-up, introductions, etc. are provided. There is always a presentation or activity to learn more about the church and each other. The goal is to sit down and build relationships with each other, stepping outside our regular groups of friends.

Vision Team

We have found the need to bring back the vision team here at LHC. In the past the vision team has been used to plan the more long-term direction of our church, including the path to our new building. As a steering team, we find ourselves very busy with what is happening right now at LHC with pastoral care and ministry needs. We haven’t found the time to think, listen, and pray about what LHC needs to do a little farther out. The vision team will help to form more long range plans, as well as confirm that the steering team and key ministries are in line with that vision. We have assembled a group of people to be on this team, and will be working with them in the near future to outline responsibilities. More to come on this team.

Other notes

  • Stuart and Lisa White have transferred their membership to Living Hope.
  • Dan and Nancy Steele are taking over the leadership of the Sportspersons’ ministry.
  • We decided to ask for congregational input on steering team nominees. In the past it has been solely up to the steering team to choose nominees.
  • The finance team, although not elected, are going to 3-year terms. This will enable them to get a 3-year commitment from volunteers, but also allow a time for members to leave the team and pursue other opportunities.
  • We are looking into a project to side a house for one of our seniors. We decided to do this separate from our Opportunity for Community project because it’s a larger project, it’s not in Fox Lake, and it is not reaching outside of our church membership. On the other hand, we feel this is something we need to do as a church, to support our members, especially when they can’t take on projects like this on their own anymore. We are in the early stages of planning this, but at this point the idea is that we can maybe involve the youth in the project, and any payment that is received would go to the youth group. We’ll be looking for volunteers when this project gets closer!

In Christ,
Your Steering Team
